Highlights: Fertility & Genetics: Proven Results
The Cumulative Pregnancy Rate best assesses the efficiency
of fertility treatments. For this, the outcome of couples who
continue on treatment until pregnancy is achieved is
calculated. Results from our center for the period 2002-2008,
show that in the vast majority of cases with up to three IVF
cycles a viable pregnancy can be achieved. Likewise, in
couples undergoing IVF with donor eggs, the cumulative viable
pregnancy/live birth rate after two attempts approaches 90%.

Highlights: Single Embryo Transfer - Safest Approach to Avoid Multiple Births
Preliminary results of our clinical study on egg freezing in combination with single embryo transfer are very encouraging. Egg freezing will play an important role in the reproductive choices of many women. We have now completed the first eleven In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycles in this trial and are happy to report that we have attained nine fresh cycle pregnancies and two pregnancies from the very first transfers of vitrified thawed embryos with cryopreserved oocytes in 5 of these patients. Patients considering IVF treatment may benefit from participating in this clinical trial. Our center is one of a few in the country with experience utilizing the newest freezing methods for human eggs and embryos. For information on qualifications and benefits please contact our offices.

Highlights: Evaluation of the Male Goes Beyond the Sperm Count
A man’s role in conception is generally considered as straight forward; however, male reproduction is a complex process that involves multiple steps influencing the production, maturation, delivery and ultimately the competence of sperm. Disruptions of any of these phases result in nearly 40% of all men of reproductive age being infertile; therefore, when a couple is having difficulty conceiving the male partner is also initially evaluated via a semen analysis (SA). Often times however, the SA does not provide all answers, as normally appearing sperm can have anomalies at the DNA level. The degree of DNA damage in sperm is a strong predictor of fertility potential. Advanced tests can measure the extent of DNA damage. Sperm with high levels of DNA damage have a lower probability of producing a successful pregnancy.

Highlights: 50% Pregnancy Rate (Delivered/Ongoing) achieved for
IVF - ET in 2002
Last year, we enjoyed higher success
rates with both IVF and ICSI
(Assisted Micro-fertilization for severe
male infertility). In patients less
than 35 years of age we achieved a
remarkable 50% delivered /
ongoing pregnancy rate per
embryo transfer. Furthermore, the overall success rate for
patients of all ages in which ICSI was indicated reached
39%. For the past 3 years now, our egg donation program
has attained a solid 50% pregnancy rate. These results
are the product of a highly individualized, patient friendly
team approach to infertility therapy. We have facilitated
access to treatment by offering donor egg sharing and
thereby reducing costs.

Highlights: Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD): A Reality
The recent arrival (June 2003) of the first baby conceived after
Genetic Pre-implantation Diagnosis (PGD) in South Florida is very
rewarding to all of us at CARE-LIFE. PGD is an advanced technique
that allows the screening of embryos for chromosomal or genetic
anomalies prior to their replacement into the womb. In patients with a
family history of certain genetic disorders, or those with advanced age,
PGD can help improve the odds of success.

Highlights: Genetic Testing and Counseling
Genetic testing and counseling is offered at our center
routinely. Couples can obtain valuable information with
regard to the genetic status of the fetus. Chorionic villus
sampling (CVS), a test performed in early pregnancy (10-
12 weeks) is of great importance, especially in cases of
multiple pregnancy such as twins, etc. CVS is performed
under continuous sonographic observation using a very thin
biopsy needle to obtain a small sample of the early placenta,
which has the same chromosomal make up as the fetus.
